Hi sweet community,
This blog piece may not be of interest to many of you, but I will add here that as well as support
ing my fertility, these changes also supported my hormones, skin, hair, nails and had a huge impact on my ability to express myself, including the deeply uncomfortable AND in a more creative way... sharing my singing voice.
I also feel it is important to say that I believe the journey of fertility and conception is deeply personal, goes far beyond just the physical, and holds much nuance.
So I share this tentatively, and with a huge small print:
“Please take nothing as gospel, take what lands and leave what doesn’t, and know the journey is impacted by the mental, emotional and energetic - just as much the physical, while acknowledging they are also intricately interwoven”.
I share in the name of support, and not self-professed expertise - despite plenty of experience in this field and a heap of training.
Any expertise I might speak of falls short in the realms of the mystical womb.
1. I STOPPED TRYING
I released the need to “try” for a baby, and embodied all I had learned about the feminine, welcoming a journey of surrendership and trust. I did not force sex unless I actually wanted it and it naturally evolved.
Side note: Of course there is a requirement of some action when it comes to conception, but letting go of control felt a huge part of my journey.
2. I ATE MORE
I introduced more carbohydrates into my diet and allowed myself to gain around half a stone.
Side note: While I felt healthy my BMI was low, I had skin issues (congestion) and I had previously led a life of restriction. Of course, this is not going to be the case for all women. Nuance, nuance, nuance.
3. I REINTROUCED ANIMAL PRODUCTS
I slowly reintroduced animal products after 4 years of veganism - much to my resistance at first after being guided by someone else that I needed to.
Side note: I have known many vegan women conceive and birth healthy babies, so there is nuance here.
Side note 2: I chose local, organic and free-range animal products to ensure quality over quantity - and still ate plenty of vegan/veggie meals - so my intake was still relatively low.
4. I RELEASED STRICT SUPPLEMENTATION
I did not follow any nutrition or supplement advice precisely - quite the opposite, I stripped it back and listened to my body as to when I took them. I worked with Organic Beef Organ supplements only - and did not take them every day.
I also introduced regular high quality bone broth.
Side note: All bodies are different and respond differently to foods & supplementation.
5. MORE FEMININE-LED MOVEMENT
I did less masculine-led movement and more feminine-led movement practices. I didn’t push to build muscle or shred, I offered my body a softer intuition-led approach - welcoming in more free expression and relinquishing a right-way wrong-way approach to moving my body.
Side note: I have witnessed plenty of women focused on masculine movement conceive! Nuance.
6. REGULAR ACUPUNCTURE
I had weekly five-elements acupuncture to support my energy system and move some deeply rooted blocks.
Side note: I do feel the commitment to the weekly sessions had a profound impact, and after years of working in this field I have witnessed and experienced the biggest shifts through commitment over one-off sessions (of any healing modality).
Side note 2: I have had some clients join me for just one womb or energy healing session and fall pregnant! Nuance.
7. I WORKED LESS
I cut down how much I was working - to less than 50% of what it had been.
Side note: Prior to this, I was working all hours of all days and completely fried, despite being in love with my work.
Side note 2: I have witnessed plenty of other women conceive while working their tush’s off. Nuance.
8. I AVOIDED COLD WATER
I stopped drinking cold and iced water, and avoided cold water dips (below 14 degrees) apart from when balanced with extreme heat (sauna) - after learning some interesting pieces about the impact of cold on the womb, and for me and my body it landed.
Side note: Like most things, it is likely not absolute for all women.
Side note 2: I do feel the cold has incredible health and spiritual impact - but from what I’ve learned and witnessed, it does not suit all body types and eras of life, especially those with stagnancy in the womb.
9. I KEPT MY FEET WARM
I kept my feet warm always - including sea dips.
Warm feet = warm womb, they say. Heard it, loved it - live it.
Side note: I also went through a previous journey of allowing the pain of the cold water on my feet and whole body to heal me - to the point of eventually the pain passing. I believe there can be different stages in the journey where we allow an evolution from one thing to another.
10. I DEVOTED TO THE INNER JOURNEY
I devoted myself to an inner journey with my womb - allowing the surfacing of unprocessed experiences and trapped emotions, through personal ceremonies and rituals, training journeys and group healing experiences. I sat with the deep, raw and uncomfortable as I met parts of myself I had unknowingly and unintentionally dismissed, denied or rejected, and gradually integrated parts of my feminine.
Side note: I had witnessed LOADS of women do none of this and conceive with ease. Nuance. Every woman’s journey is different.
11. I SAT WITH SHAME
I sat with deeply rooted shame - from my own experiences and from beyond my lifetime, as well as the shame caused through conditioned beliefs. From menstrual shame to sexual shame and beyond.
Side note: Again, many women do none of this. Nuance.
12. I SAT WITH FEAR
I sat with the parts of me that did not want to become a mother, as well as the fears and unworthiness that were unconsciously leading me.
Side note: Again, many women do none of this. Nuance.
13. I SAT WITH PLANT MEDICINES
I sat with plant medicines (including psilocybin, ayahuasca, bobinsana and abuta) consciously and sporadically - ensuring adequate time for integration, and cacao more regularly.
Each supported me to see beyond the parameters of my beliefs and knowledge, and allowed for deep healing and expansion of consciousness.
Side note: While I am an advocate for plant medicines, they are perhaps not suited for everyone during certain eras of life. I highly recommend journeying with someone who you trust and has experience working with them - because while they cannot control what may rise they will have the tools to hold and support you.
14. I FACED MY SEXUAL TRAUMA
Supported by plant medicine and my willingness to look, memories surfaced to enable processing of the unprocessed. A deeply uncomfortable journey but one that has set me free of the unconscious beliefs I had running due to these early life experiences, and all that lies connected to them. From shame to unworthiness and a LOT of unprocessed anger.
Side note: Liberation does not come without meeting all the ways we have been unknowingly bound. While not all women have experienced sexual trauma in the same way, there can be easily dismissed experiences that have shaped us more than we realise.
15. I USED HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES
I worked with a homeopath for 3 years, journeying deep with wounds beyond the conscious - using bio-resonance.
While seemingly subtle the impact was huge.
I ensured I gave myself adequate integration between rounds and remedies.
So… yeah, lots of deeply personal, and plenty of room for nuance.
No two women have the same journey.
No two women need the same things - inner and outer.
Oftentimes a journey of seeming difficulty conceiving is very much part of a healing journey for something deeper, and preparation for the journey of motherhood.
The womb is a mystical being, more powerful and intelligent than we give her credit for!
